Car park hopping
Head for the Rhinefield Ornamental drive and stop at Puttles Bridge (good bridge to play Pooh Sticks), Blackwater (arboretum), Knightwood (oldest oak in forest) Bolderwood (deer feeding) and then go onto the High Corner Inn for lunch. After a hearty lunch head for Lyndhurst and take afternoon tea. Return ready to put your feet up in front of the fire!

Exbury Gardens
Just 20- 25 minutes by car from Brockenhurst is the famous Exbury Gardens. For under £10 per person you can spend a whole day enjoying the gardens and steam train. There is a buggie to take you around the gardens if your legs are tired (additional cost), and there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the beautiful gardens. Closed during the winter

Beaulieu Motor Museum
If you buy your ticket on the first day of your visit it is valid for the duration of your stay. There is a lot to see. As well as the museum there is also the Abbey and the grounds to enjoy so it can take a couple of visits to take it all in. 15- 20 minutes drive. Closed Christmas day.

Beaulieu to Bucklers Hard
15-20 minutes drive from the hotel through delightful forest is the pretty village of Beaulieu. You can walk from Beaulieu to Bucklers Hard (2.5miles) along the pretty estuary and then have a drink or lunch in the Master Builders Arms. The village of Buckler's Hard is a living museum and you can see how it used to be dedicated to producing ships for Nelson's Fleet. Closed Christmas day.

Highcliffe Castle
20 - 30 minutes drive. Highcliffe is a delightful spot but it isn't really a castle as you would imagine. When we go there we spend a happy hour or so on the wide sandy beach just below the castle. Then adjourn to the tea rooms for some refreshment followed by a walk along the cliff tops.

Keyhaven
20 - 30 minutes journey time . Keyhaven is a somewhere to venture on a calm day. You can catch a little boat out to Hurst Castle. They do a return trip. Alternatiavely you can walk out across the spit (1 mile each way). It can be a windswept spot but if the sun shines it is a glorious place to see the boats in the Solent and the Isle of Wight.

Southampton
20 - 30 minutes. Shops, ships, museums and restaurants.

Bournemouth
30 - 50 minutes. Kiss me quick hats, piers and lots of sandy beaches. What more could you want?

Salisbury
40 - 60 minutes. Delightful cathedral. Wonderful shopping. Horrible parking in peak season. But worth a visit.

Stonehenge
60 - 70 minutes. A must for everyone at some point in their lives. A wonder. Bit chilly on windy days!

Winchester
30 - 40 minutes. Shops, cathedral, river, plenty of tea rooms. Delightful city.
